WATERLOO, IL (KPLR) – A thief gobbles up 140 frozen turkeys from a Metro-East meat market.

Sometime late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, police believe a thief prowling for tools at a construction company ended up stealing the turkeys instead from Schneider`s Quality Meats on Route 3 in Waterloo, Illinois.

'You don`t always hear of that. We think the total loss is over $1000 to Schneider`s,' said Waterloo Police Detective Jeff Prosise. 'We are waiting to get some video from a local business there to help with the investigation.'

That business is T. Fuller Construction, right next door to the Schneider`s.

Police believe the thief`s original plan was to steal power tools from a trailer at Fuller`s, but all he found in it was debris.

At that point, police believe he noticed the refrigerated trailer at Schneider`s and decided to break into it instead.

Police are hoping the security camera at Fuller`s caught an image of the thief trying to break into the construction trailer.

'It just goes to show you somebody will steal anything,' said customer Dennis Leonard.

The stolen turkeys, which range from 10 to 12 pounds, are mostly extras Schneider`s gives to organizations that feed the needy.

Unfortunately, they have now gone to feed the greedy.

'This is awful,' said longtime customer Arlene Leonard. 'I can`t imagine why someone would take 140 turkeys except they are just bad people.'
