POTOSI, MO (KTVI) – A young girl was struck late this afternoon as she exited her school bus near Potosi Missouri.

The Missouri Highway Patrol confirms the bus had stopped and had its safety crossing arm extended when a group of students exited. The victim tried to cross Highway 21 near Vilmer Road and was struck. The Patrol says an elderly driver apparently didn’t realize the students were crossing and struck the girl as he passed the school bus.

The police are still on the scene investigating the incident. The driver was stopped and told police he didn’t even realize he had struck the girl.

She was taken to a hospital and her injuries are described as moderate. She suffered a laceration to her hand, and a bump to her head.
