(KPLR) – St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is working in collaboration with the NAACP St. Louis Branch, the St. Louis Public Safety Department, and the Ethical Society of Police to recruit more minority police officers to the force. The City has been working on the initiative for months. However, the tragic shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown by Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson on, August 9, 2014, gave the plan a greater sense of urgency.
