Burglar shot in face, hospitalized during attempted home invasion

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- A home invasion suspect is hospitalized after police say he tried to break into a home and was shot by the homeowner. Authorities say the man was shot once in the face. He was taken away in critical but stable condition.

The shooting happened around 1:40a.m. Thursday morning on Helen at Madison Street.

Investigators say the intruder was trying to break into the home when he was confronted by the homeowner who opened fire on him. EMS crews found the suspect in the home`s backyard.

The homeowner was not hurt.

According to police, the other residents in the home were not injured.

The suspect’s age is unknown. It is unclear of where he tried to get into the home.

It is also unclear whether the intruder was shot inside or outside of the home.
