SUNSET HILLS, MO (KPLR) – On Wednesday News 11 cameras went in search of Sunset Hills Mayor Mark Furrer but he was nowhere to be found. This after St. Louis County Police charged Furrer with second degree assault and property damage. After he allegedly hit cyclist Randy Murdick during what Murdick calls a fit of road rage in July on Old Gravois Road. Not only did the cyclist suffer injuries. His $12,000 thousand dollar bike was also damaged. The mayor's attorney also issued a statement.

"I am hoping this leads down to the right path where people in cars at least take a second thought before they harass somebody or pass them too closely."

"We plan to vigorously defend this matter, the matter will go to trial and we expect to win. Mark wanted to give a statement but we advised to wait until this matter is over." Said attorney Tom Magee.

Furrer faces up to 11 years in prison. Cyclists are also hoping the incident will spark conversations about how drivers and cyclist share the road.

At this point there's no word on a court date.
