AFFTON, MO (KPLR) - St. Louis County police are investigating whether two women who were robbed at gunpoint were followed home from a casino.
Two women were heading home after a night out with friends at Lumiere Place Casino, and pulled into a detached garage, at one of their homes on Avenue F in Affton, just after 11 Tuesday night.
Before they could get out of the car, they were greeted by two men wearing masks. “They hold them at gunpoint, and demanded money, and eventually ran off with purses and cell phones,” explains St. Louis County Police Sgt. Brian Schellman.
The women, both Vietnamese, didn’t speak much English, so one of their daughters called 911.
The crime has neighbor Kathy Oldendorf feeling very uncomfortable, especially since there are no suspects: “I am in total shock. We have no problems here at all.”
At this point, it’s unclear whether the women were followed home from the casino, or if the criminals were already waiting in their neighborhood, for the right opportunity. Detectives plan to examine Lumiere surveillance, to see if the women were, in fact, followed.
Schellman explains, “We have had this sort of thing happen, I wouldn’t call it often, again I can’t confirm whether that’s exactly what happened in this one. But it’s like anything, we would always tell people to be wary of their surroundings, especially if you are coming out of a casino.”
There were no immediate clues from the contents of the victims' purses. Schellman says there were a few hundred dollars stolen, not a jackpot amount.
News 11 reached out to Lumiere's security director but has not yet received a response.
