HIGHLAND, IL (KPLR) – As the Highland teacher’s strike heads into its 4th day, student athletes are still allowed to gear up and practice for the season.

News 11 found multiple signs of support posted around Highland supporting teachers and their cause.

At this point the teachers union and the district had tentative deal Saturday. However, that ended Sunday as union members overwhelmingly rejected the districts offer in a 20 to 140 vote.

There are also rumors suggesting the district is looking to file an unfair labor relations complaint against the teachers union, but union leaders say they have no case.

News 11 reached out Highland Superintendent Mike Sutton by phone on Monday and so far no response. Right now there are 192 teachers in the Highland school district with 175 in the union. Teachers hope to meet with the district officials and mediator again by the end of the week. In the meantime, teachers will be back at the picket line Tuesday morning at 8am.
