(KPLR) - The man convicted for the rape and murder of a Lake St. Louis woman 19 years ago is scheduled to be executed Tuesday night.

Michael Shane Worthington would be the seventh inmate put to death in Missouri this year unless the courts or Governor Nixon intervenes.

Worthington confessed to breaking into Melinda Griffin's apartment, choked, raped and killing of the 24-year-old woman.

This would be the first execution nationally since a lethal injection in Arizona went awry last month.
