ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) - A 14-year-old boy is recovering this morning after a scary situation in North County.  The teen was shot in the stomach after a dispute turned violent.  Police are still searching for suspects.  St. Louis County Police say the boy`s injuries appear to be non-life threatening.  However, he is still hospitalized.

The shooting happened about 8:45pm Tuesday night on Redman Road in the Spanish Lake area.  Police initially received calls from people who heard gunshots.  When officers arrived, they found the 14-year-old boy outside shot once in the stomach.  Investigators believe two groups of teens from the Spanish Lake area met up and some of the people in the groups don`t like each other.

At least one person in each group was armed and it didn`t take long for shots to start.  County police say at this point they have no reason to believe the shooting was gang related.  It's unclear if the boy who was shot was part of one of the groups involved.

No one else was hurt.

One house and one car were hit by stray bullets.  Children were inside of the home eating dinner with their family. Police have some leads and Crimes Against Persons detectives are actively working the case.

A strong police presence will be in this neighborhood as police strive to make an arrest.
