Cassandra’s Nomination: I attended Mehlville Senior High School from 2007-2009, after being bullied,  issues with my home life, and falling off track with school and life in general my counselor and my mother decided switching to an alternative school would be best for me. After starting this new program in spring of my junior year I continued to  put off school. Loren Widmer was my teacher, shortly after meeting me she realized the path I was on and acted quickly before I gave up. She began trying out different learning methods, trying to explain things different, she would come up with analogies so I could remember the information better. Not only did she do this for me, but she personalized a lesson for each student based on how they learned the information. I was in a certified nurses assistant program with South Technical High School, and dreamt of becoming a nurse, Ms. Widmer then recommended me for a program over the summer that was similar to pre-medical so I could explore my options. It meant the world to me that she remembered and took initiative to change my life and get me back on track. No student has ever had a negative thing to say about her, she truly has showed me that she cared about each student. I have never looked forward to school and learning until her. She is the kind of teacher other teachers should aspire to be. She opened my eyes, got me on track, and helped me graduate with my class in 2011. I am thankful to have met her. Ms. Widmer should be recognized for her hard work and making a difference in my life, and multiple other students.
