DES PERES, MO (KTVI)-It's become a St. Louis Mother's Day tradition: a free tulip bulb giveaway. The Staenberg Group, a commercial real estate development company, donates the bulbs, which had been planted in the landscaping in their area properties.

This year, each person was given one bag of bulbs for free while supplies last. In previous years, there had been a large pile that participants dug through. The hope was to keep things more orderly this year.

The giveaway started at 8:00am Sunday at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Des Peres. Many were lined up well before the start time. By 11:00am, the bulbs were all gone.

The Brickman Group landscaping company brought all the bulbs, ten dumps trucks full, to the giveaway site.

I got a load of bulbs from Meridian Village in Glen Carbon IL. Was there in time to get them as they were being dug up. The worker had a huge truck load and was going to dump them all in the trash behind the complex. What a waste.
