ST. LOUIS (KPLR) – Wednesday night was a big event for the region as Focus St. Louis highlighted unsung heroes across the region.

Mayor Slay and County Executive Charlie Dooley were on hand as well as our very own Elliot Weiler to help award 20 non-profit organizations like "The Breach Project", Operation Food Search, and Safe Connections to name a few.

This year's recipient "of the prestigious" leadership award was Chris Krehmeyer of Beyond Housing. He's worked for the organization for over 20 years and has helped transform communities by getting people off the streets and giving them opportunities to improve their lives.

He was recognized for leaders doing good things in the community, along with helping house over 400 people in need of homes. He’s also helped put Beyond Housing on the national map, with other organizations looking at their model to transform communities.
