(KPLR) – Game 3 of the playoff series between the Blues and Blackhawks takes place in Chicago. Will the note be without their Captain David Backes?

News 11 Sports Director Rich Gould has the update on David Backes.

No hockey tonight for David Backes, he will miss game three, but the Blues get Patrick Berglund back against Chicago. A Blues win tonight would make it very difficult for the Blackhawks to win this series.

Chicago's Brent Seabrook took a run at Backes and wallopped him with a shoulder to head, head into the glass, a vicious, cheap hit by a player who doesn't have the reputation for playing that way.

Seabrook got a three game suspension, the Blues got a long power play and scored with six seconds left to tie. They won in overtime to take control of the series.

There are reports Chicago’s players said some things right after the Backes hit, if that's true, said Blues enforcer Ryan Reaves, it's gutless.

Pro hockey coaches guard injury information in the playoffs like a Marine guards his post. It's tight, but common sense tells you Backes may have suffered a concussion.

If so, there's no telling when he will be back.

Faceoff is at 7:35 pm in Chicago.
