ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- The Historic Goldenrod Showboat was sold Wednesday to a group of local preservationists trying to bring the boat back to the St. Louis Riverfront.

But the group has only $40,000 of the $70,000 purchase price, so the sellers are giving them six months to come up with the rest of the money.

Their challenge becomes raising the substantial funds needed to restore the boat.

The Historic Riverboat Preservation Association plans to move the Goldenrod to the St. Louis Riverfront within a month if it passes its Marine inspection.

Their goal is to turn the Goldenrod back into a showboat that would be permanently moored near Laclede's Landing.
