ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- The mother of a 5-year-old child believes criminal charges should be filed against a terminated daycare worker.   Surveillance cameras from Varie`s Day Care on North 19th Street recorded the incident.  The center`s owner shared the video with police and the mother of the child.  The mother of the child says it shows the worker slapping her son and grabbing him by the arm.

The mother asked us not to reveal her name.  Her son told us the teacher struck him because he was sitting at the wrong table.  He also said he saw the teacher slap other students.

The mother used her cell phone to record the video as the day care owner played it.  The mother shared that video with us.  The day care owner did not want to talk with us on camera, but did say she fired the teacher because the center follows a strict 'no-touch' policy when it comes to the kids.

The mother feels the video is proof criminal charges should be filed.

"Something needs to be done," she said.  "My son does not want to go back to daycare."

The daycare has terminated its contract to provide care for the child in question.  The owner says she took that action because the child`s mother started an altercation at the daycare with the teacher in question.  She says that happened shortly after the mother learned about the incident.

The child`s mother feels the daycare center should have taken action as soon as the incident happened.  The daycare owner says she took action as soon as she was aware there was a problem.

No charges have been filed in the case.  The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department says an investigation is ongoing.
