ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI) - It's one of the busiest corridors along Interstate 70 in the state of Missouri.  Now improvements are still being considered to the I-70 Fifth Street interchange in St. Charles.

Fifth Street is the first exit when coming west across the Blanchette Bridge.  Now that area will be the focus of an open house on Thursday.

Officials believe 50 percent of the traffic that crosses the Blanchette Bridge into St. Charles gets off either on Fifth Street or the next exit up -- Route 94/First Capitol Drive.

Transportation officials say in the heavily-traveled corridor, drivers face confusing intersections, intensive lane changing and short merging areas.  Those authorities say while several area roads have been upgraded in recent years, the I-70 Fifth Street interchange has not.

The open house will focus on how changed wot he interchange could help improve traffic flow and safety.

The open house runs Thursday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the St. Charles County Administration Building on North Second Street in St. Charles.  You are invited to stop by anytime during those two hours.

The event is being put on by St. Charles County leaders along with the City of St. Charles and MoDOT.
