(KPLR) - The ACLU will file a lawsuit this week on behalf of Missouri gay couples for recognition of same-sex marriage. It will seek to overturn the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

Couples from Kansas City, St. Louis, mid-Missouri and Springfield are included in the suit that will be filed in a Kansas City state court.

The lawsuit comes less than a month after a federal judge struck down Oklahoma’s ban on same-sex marriage law that is similar to Missouri's.

Missouri voters approved the ban in 2004.
