ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Former Ram Aeneas Williams is headed to the NFL Hall of Fame, and there is no prouder a collection of people than the congregation at the Spirit Church in Ferguson, where he’s the pastor.

“Think the whole church was texting,” church member Shirley Vaughn-Smith said, sporting a replica #35 St. Louis jersey with her pastor’s name on the back. “We were all texting. ‘He got in! He got in!’ We were so excited!”

She says the third time was a charm. Williams was on the ballot, but not selected in the two previous years. But, assistant pastor Simeon Williams says the wait never bothered his boss.

“Aeneas has never been worried. He’s never even been down when it happened because he knew eventually it would happen. But, that’s his character. His character has always been positive no matter the situation that happens.”

All agree it will be quite a celebration when Williams returns to the pulpit as a Hall of Famer.

“Oh. My. God. I don’t know. It’s gonna be very exciting,” Vaughn-Smith said.

Clearly proof, she tells us, that nice guys can finish first.
