ST. LOUIS, MO (KPLR) – The movie "Labor Day" opens in theatres this weekend. The film starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin is based on a novel by Joyce Maynard. The author stopped by the KPLR studios to talk about her life, her books and some steamy scenes from her novels.

Maynard also talks about her relationship with reclusive author JD Salinger. Her memoir about that time in her life became the foundation for her best-selling memoir, "At Home in the World."

Joyce Maynard is also very good at making pies. A scene from the movie "Labor Day" is being called one of the sexiest since the clay molding scene in, "Ghost." Maynard shows host Christine Buck how to bake with the best.
