(KPLR) - Adults 18 and older can get free flu shots in north St. Louis Monday. Beginning at 8 a.m., Barnes-Jewish will make the flu vaccine available at the O'Fallon Park Recreation Complex.

They're calling this an emergency flu shot clinic because St. Louis has seen a higher volume of severe cases lately.

Eleven people have died from the flu in the region so far. Nine of those were at Barnes Hospital. The ages of the victims range from their mid-20s to mid-60s. Health officials say the H1N1 strain you might remember from the 2009 pandemic, has been impacting adults more than any other age group.

That's why Monday's clinic is only for adults.

During last year's flu season, more than 35,000 St. Louisans were vaccinated at similar free flu shot clinics. Just last week, the St. Louis County Health Department also offered free flu shots.

The O'Fallon Park Rec Plex is located at 4343 West Florissant in St. Louis and it goes from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday.
