SUNSET HILLS, MO (KTVI)- With the clock counting down to Christmas, shoppers still needing gifts have been filling stores and malls across St. Louis. But you may be surprised about “when” they are shopping.

Stores like Toys R Us,  Kohl’s, Macy’s and K-mart will stay open until late on Christmas eve. FOX 2 found shoppers entering the Toys R Us in Sunset Hills in the pre-dawn hours Sunday.

With bad weather the last several weekend, fewer shoppers have been hitting the stores on those critical days off from work. Also, the holiday shopping season is about six days shorter than it was last year due to the late date of Thanksgiving Day. Stores hope to make up for lost sales over this 100 hour period.

Sam’s Club stores tried another tactic this weekend, an open house of sorts. The club retailer allowed people without memberships to enter and shop Saturday and Sunday.
