ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- Two thieves are either bold or very stupid. Two men were spotted downtown late Sudnay night stealing an ATM  machine located right next door to a police substation.

It happened just before 12 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Olive.

The 150 pound ATM was located outside, but was bolted to a 400 pound metal box.

One thief was described as wearing a hockey mask.

He and his accomplice drove off in a white commercial van.

There were about $3,000 to $4,000 inside the cash machine.

People who live or work downtown say the bad guys are getting more brazen.

Police are trying to determine if surveillance cameras in the area caught the suspects on tape. The substation is not opened 24 hours. Police use it mainly to fill out reports.

A witness did not report the crime until he got to work giving the suspects a 20 minute head start.
