NEW YORK (KPLR) – This is the 50th year of the awards, which were started by President Kennedy. President Obama noted Robert Kennedy's widow Ethel, as well as Jack Schlossberg, JFK’s grandson and son to U.S. Ambassador Caroline Kennedy was in the audience.

And this black and white footage is how we will remember that event 50 years ago.
