Serious accident causes major delays on northbound I-270

TOWN & COUNTRY, MO (KTVI) – Commuters were met with heavy traffic Wednesday on I-270 following a serious accident.

At least three people were injured when a minivan traveling in the northbound lanes of I-270 near Clayton left the highway.

The accident happened around 6 a.m.   The minivan crashed and caught fire on the side of the highway.

Three people inside the vehicle were taken away by ambulance to St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. Emergency crews believe the three were burned.

Traffic on northbound I-270 was backed up for at least six and a half miles for over an hour as accident reconstruction crews investigated the accident.
