SWANSEA, IL (KPLR)-- Several businesses have been evacuated after a potential methane gas leak in Swansea, Illinois.

Swansea Fire Department Chief John McGuire says contractors were drilling an abandoned mine south of 2665 North Illinois, which is near the Schnucks Plaza, when the contractors hit a methane line.

Ten businesses have been evacuated as a precaution. Schnucks is still open for business.
