4 injured in hot air balloon explosion shortly after landing

(CNN) — Four people were injured by an explosion in a hot air balloon Saturday morning in Temecula, California, officials said.

The balloon had an uneventful landing and then burst into flames on the ground shortly after, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

Five people were in the balloon, the fire department said in a press release.

One patient was taken by ambulance to a regional burn centerand two were driven by ambulance to local trauma centers. The fourth person injured was driven by ambulance to an area hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available, but they suffered burns.

The cause of the explosion was unknownand both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
