FLORISSANT, MO (KTVI) – A man was rushed to an area hospital after the boat he was in was hit by a barge.

The barge was going upstream on the Missouri River when it ran over the front of a small boat piloted by an employee of the St. Louis Bridge Company.

Bommartio Automotive SkyFOX flew over the scene near a quarry in the 14000 block of North Highway 367 near where the small boat capsized, trapping the pilot under water. The area is about a mile from Jamestown Mall.

A second company safety boat and a towboat came to his rescue. Crews were able to pull the boat from the river, pulled the man out and began CPR.

He was rushed to a north St. Louis County hospital. His condition is unknown.

He had been carrying bridge company employees who were reinforcing a railroad bridge pier.
