OLIVETTE, MO (KPLR) - Olivette Police have released an official statement in the investigation of the latest smash-and-grab burglary in the metro area.  A detective is scheduled to give an update soon.

This time, thieves hit the Timekeepers Jewelry and Clock Shop on Olive Boulevard.  The shop sits right next door to the Olivette Police Department.

According to that official statement, a patrol officer heard a burglar alarm sound near the department at 5:02 Monday morning.  He followed the sound to the store, and saw the glass front doors were completely smashed.  He also saw a red Dodge Ram pickup truck on the parking lot.  It had heavy damage to the rear end.

He then saw a “light colored SUV” speed off the parking lot.  The officer chased the SUV on northbound Interstate-170.  Eventually, speeds got so high that the officer abandoned the chase near Natural Bridge Road and I-170.

Back at the scene, investigators said it was not immediately clear what was missing.  But, the police supervisor said there were some “obvious missing items”.  The store’s owner came to work and pulled surveillance video.

A supervisor at the scene said the Dodge Ram was reported stolen from St. Louis City five days ago.

No arrests were made.  Police are working on a suspect description right now.
