ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– Powerball tickets have been flying out of the machines, as Wednesday’s jackpot reached $400 million.  It’s the fifth largest jackpot in history.

The winning numbers are 7, 10, 22, 32, 35 P19

The chances of winning are one in 175 million, but that didn’t stop folks around St. Louis from dreaming big.

Lisa Batched and her four year-old son filled in numbers on a blank Powerball ticket, using their birthdays and ages, hoping lady luck will shine down on their family.

“I always pick the quick pick and never win anything,” she explains, “so I’m just gonna try something else I guess.”

She’s feeling optimistic, like hundreds of others who came through this 7-Eleven in Maryland Heights.  Cashier Ashley Fultz says, “It’s non-stop, people are in and out all day, it’s not just a rush here and there. It’s crazy.”

With dollar signs on their minds, Fultz enjoys how customers seem a little more excited on days like this: “They always say, I’ll come back, since you sold it to me, and give you some.”

Ever since Powerball doubled the ticket price from $1 to $2 in early 2012, huge jackpots are becoming more common.

The recent revamp also doles out $1 million consolation prizes.  Just last month, one of those million-dollar tickets was sold at a Huck’s in St. Peters.  But that’s bad news for one superstitious Powerball player.  Kathryn Grayson says, “I don’t know, I think there’s only so much luck in the world, and maybe it kind of decreases your chances.”

Regardless of the exceedingly slim chance of winning, nothing can take away the joy in all that dreaming.

“I’d have a whole lot of fun,” says Dean Goffe.

Grayson adds, “I’d throw a big party for my entire familyand I’d take them somewhere. I’d take them on a long trip, that’d be excellent.”

If no one wins the $400 million jackpot, it will inch closer to the $665 million record jackpot, won in March 2012.
