EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI)-Know before you go, a stretch of eastbound Interstate 64 in the Metro East is now shut down. The Illinois Department of Transportation closed the eastbound lanes between the Interstate 55/70/64 split and the 25th Street bridge Friday night. The stretch will be closed for nine days, reopening the morning of September 23.

Eastbound I-64 traffic must detour around the closure by taking I-55/70 to I-255 south back to I-64. Westbound I-64 in that area is open to traffic.

IDOT crews are rebuilding two eastbound lanes of I-64 as the work continues to finish the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.
