PINE LAWN, MO. (KPLR) – A 9-year old Pine Lawn boy is recovering after being shot in the upper chest Friday night while playing in his grandmother's back yard.  It happened in the 3700 block of Manola about 9:30 pm.  The youngster's younger cousin was grazed by a bullet that broke a rear window and entered the home.

Pine Lawn Police and St. Louis County Police detectives worked overnight to locate suspects.

At one point Pine Lawn and Northwoods officers chased a stolen car that broke through a crime scene perimeter but it turned out to be unconnected to the shooting.

Pine Lawn Sgt. Steve Blakeney said the shooting was not an accident.  "This was an assault first (degree) on the children," he said Saturday.  Four children ages 12 to nine were on a back patio according to the grandmother.  Other children were inside the home with adults.

Saturday afternoon she said she feared someone was trying to kill her family.  Neighbors said their section of the street usually was quiet.
