Widow faces money troubles after veteran husband killed by drunk driver

POTOSI, MO (KTVI)-- The widow of an Afghanistan War veteran spoke with FOX 2 about his death and her family's financial future.

Ben Tonak served his country for six years, but after coming home he was killed in a motorcycle accident.

Many of the details surrounding the accident are unknown. The accident happened in Kentucky Sunday, but Ben and his widow are from Potosi, Missouri.

"I am now a 26-year-old widow," Annie Moore-Tonak said. "My life will never be the same."

Annie is also a veteran.

"My husband did not have life insurance," she said. "I didn't think he was going to die at 25."

Annie said she expects little help from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

"It's defeating because there are very few people who can help," she said. "Funerals are thousands of dollars."

The family is accepting donations they can be dropped off at the Moore Funeral Home at 105 Clark St  Potosi, MO 63664.

The funeral is set for Friday morning.
