Driver, passenger injured when car leaves road, hits utility pole

EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KPLR) – A driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital after a crash in East St. Louis.

It happened around 1 a.m. Monday at North 38th Street and State Street.  Police say a car was traveling east on State Street when it veered off the road, went through a vacant parking lot, and struck a utility  pole.

The driver and passenger were treated for non life-threatening injuries.  The cause of the accident is under investigation.
