COLLINSVILLE, IL (KTVI)-- Baseball teams from Collinsville and Alton teamed Wednesday to help support an 8th grade boy who lost his mother to cancer.

A baseball game and fundraiser was held at Collinsville Middle School in honor of Sam Bartos.

She died over the weekend. The single mother leaves a 13-year-old son.

"She raised me right and left a lot of memories here on earth," Sam's son Bobby Cody said.

Bobby plays for the Collinsville team, and he got a hit during his first at bat.

"It was great," he said. "I know she watches over me no matter what."

The crowd chanted Bobby's name during the game and cheered him all night.

"It made me feel like a pro," he said. "The support helps a lot."

Many of the fans purchased shirts with Sam's name on them during the game.

The proceeds will help support Bobby.
