ST. LOUIS, MO. (KPLR) – Cardinals baseball play-by-play announcer Mike Shannon has undergone successful heart surgery.  The former slugger is recuperating comfortably after having his aortic heart valve replaced.  Shannon is expected to make a full recovery.

“I would like to thank everyone for their prayers, heartfelt well-wishes and kind words.  It means a lot to me,” Mike Shannon said, “I’m looking forward to getting back in the booth and back to the game I love.”

It’s expected that Shannon will return to the broadcasting booth by September 23rd.  In the mean time, Mike’s position will be filled by Al Hrabosky, Rick Horton and Mike Claiborne, pairing with Cardinals announcer John Rooney.
