ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- An eight-week-old stray kitten was found dead in front of a home in the 9000 block of Newby Thursday afternoon.

The homeowner, Leslie Hunter, said she had been feeding the stray kitten for about a month.

"I just say it before I went to the store, but when I came back it was in a pool of blood," Hunter said.

Investigators believe someone killed it with a rock.

"There was a rather large rock right next to it when we arrived," Animal Cruelty Investigator Anne Vincent said. "We want to find who did this to the kitten."

The beating was so brutal that it left a blood stain on the sidewalk.

"When I look at that it just brings everything back," Hunter said. "This has been a really hard day."

The Humane Society of Missouri Animal Cruelty Task Force is investigating the killing.

The killer could face serious charges.
