ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - August is here, which means it’s almost time for kids to head back to school. This Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Missouri’s tax-free weekend will help lighten the financial load for families.
Racks upon racks of the season’s hottest back to school clothes are ready to hit the shelves at South County’s JC Penney.
JC Penney Store Leader Paul Lemmon says, “Today we’re doing set up, you can see some of our carts are here that we brought out from the stock room, to get more out for the customer, because those are some of the key items advertised.”
Among this year’s popular picks are camouflage, v-neck tees and straight leg jeans.
On top of the tax-free shopping, JC Penney is sweetening the deal for back to school shoppers with doorbuster deals and coupons. But updating a student’s look doesn’t only apply to clothing.
“We’re doing kids haircuts in the salon for $10, which is a great deal, we’re already getting booked up for that, and then there’s kids’ eyeglasses too for $25,” Lemmon explains.
This weekend it will be all hands on deck, with double the amount of staff as usual.
Even if the store’s merchandise won’t be tax free until Friday, some customers found the benefit of shopping the day before.
Jennifer Burrus says, “We decided to come today to avoid those crowds.”
Jessica Beuchting, shopping with her third grader niece, says it didn’t work out schedule-wise to shop tax-free, but luckily, found some deals anyway. She says, “This is going to save, even though we can’t do the tax free weekend, this is still going to save a lot of money.”
The JC Penney at South County Center will be open from 9 in the morning to 11 at night on Friday and Saturday, and 10 to 8 on Sunday.
