COLLINSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Illinois State Trooper Calvin Dye says a person believed to be a man was spotted throwing bricks from the median along Interstate 55 north near mile marker 37 in Madison County.

The person hit a total of nine vehicles between 4:00am and 6:00am Friday and was very specific.

The target was eight tractor trailers and one UPS truck. Their windshields and other parts of their vehicles were smashed in.

Trooper Dye says it’s believed the person may have recently worked in the trucking industry.

Investigators say the person was seen lying in the middle of the grassy median. The person would jump up, then throw the bricks directly at the trucks. The incidents left hundreds of dollars in damage. Luckily, no one was hurt.

“If the damage is under $300 it’s a Class B misdemeanor, which can mean six months in jail and a $1,500 fine. If it’s over $300 in damage to the vehicle it’s a felony. It can be deadly and if you are driving with your kids or by yourself you would not want a brick coming in through your windshield because it can send a person into an immediate shock,” explained Trooper Dye.

The Staunton Police Department, along with the Macoupin and Madison County Sheriff’s Departments are also part of the investigation. At this point there are no leads, but investigators are hoping someone with information will come forward and help them crack the case.
