SOUTH ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A deadly accident shut down eastbound Interstate 44 in St. Louis for several hours Saturday morning.  A police officer was reportedly pulled over to help another driver with a mattress that had come loose from his car on I-44 between Grand and Vandeventer.  Police say the driver of a pick-up truck hit the officer's unoccupied police vehicle and then swerved into a semi.

That pick-up crashed and caught fire.  The driver of the truck died at the scene.  Police have not released the driver's name.
