(KPLR) - Christine Buck talked to local teens Kayla Tinucci and Adele Taylor about being two of 10 Build-A-Bear Workshop Huggable Heroes. These 10 extraordinary kids from around the country have been recognized for their outstanding community service and social entrepreneurship. They will be honored during the Huggable Heroes award ceremony at the St. Louis Zoo Friday, July 19 from 11:00am-2:00pm. Each child will receive $10,000!

Kayla and The Shoe Crew provides new athletic shoes for kids in need. Kayla recruited 25 friends and hosted community events to give away shoes. So far, 4,000 shoes have been given to kids in need.

Adele's Literacy Library donates new books and bookmarks to schools, daycares and hospitals. Through the organization, Adele launched the Read All You Can program, which has been implemented in every elementary school in her community.  With help from partner organizations, Adele`s Literacy Library built a solar powered learning center in Kenya equipped with 4,000 books and 20 computers.

On Thursday, July 18, the Huggable Heroes will participate in a Jefferson Awards for Public Service GLOBECHANGERS bootcamp where they will learn leadership skills and gain tools to help elevate their current projects. The bootcamp will take place at the Build-A-Bear Workshop World 'Bearquarters', which is located off Page. Media will be invited to attend during certain portions.
