Update: Suspect charged in homicide involving spilled beer

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - St. Louis Police have identified the victim of a shooting Thursday morning. Authorities say Mario Shackelford, 29, was shot and killed in an early-morning dispute.

St. Louis Police said three men were riding in a car, drinking alcohol, just before midnight.  Officers said, near 7th and Market Streets, the 34-year-old male suspect spilled his beer on the upholstery.  The men started arguing.

The suspect allegedly pulled a gun and shot his friend, Mario Shackelford, several times in the chest.  The suspect tried to run, but a second friend -- a 27-year-old man -- started fighting with the suspect.  Police said the suspect shot at that man, but missed.

Police said the friend was able to take the gun, while a witness put the firearm back in the car.  The friend was able to keep the suspect at the scene until police arrived.

That suspect suffered a head injury and was taken to the hospital.  But, his friend was pronounced dead at Kiener.  As for the survivor, he was treated at the scene for cuts.

Police tell us they recovered the weapon.
