Illinois Gov. Quinn opens 100 cooling centers
CHICAGO, IL. (KTVI) – Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has ordered 100 cooling centers to be opened around the state of Illinois. The governor took the action after weather reports stated that temperatures will be hovering in the mid-90’s around the state.
The cooling stations are located in Illinois Department of Human Services office throughout the state. The centers will be open from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Quinn is urging those in need of air conditioning to do so and for citizens to watch for signs of heat related illness: include headaches, skin that is hot to the touch, increased body temperature, loss of consciousness, seizures and irregular heartbeats, from the high temperatures.
