COLLINSVILLE, IL. (KPLR) - Welcome to the east side.  And nobody could have ever guessed how far east some would go at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, Illinois.

Natsucon is the summertime celebration of Japanese animation.

"It's so different and so wild.  It's colorful and so crazy," says Sable Brown with the Natsucon Convention.

There's nothing new about these kind of festivals.  But organizers say they are usually held at far away locations.  Natsucon brings its international show to the metro area.

"It's an amazing validation that geekdom is taking over," says Natsucon's Brian Lan.

Natsucon is a Japanese pop culture celebration where many came dressed as their favorite characters.

"They come is costume to take a break from life and stuff like jobs and school," said Sable Brown.
