FENTON, MO (KTVI) - A Fenton pawn shop was hit early Thursday morning by a smash and grab thief.  In seconds, he stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise and is still on the run.

It happened at the Fenton Pawn Shop & Jewelry Store on Gravois Road. The thief smashed through the front door window with some kind of crowbar, reached through some security bars, unlocked the door and got in.

Surveillance video shows the man smashing two different jewelery cases and grabbing everything he could. The manager says he stole between $15,000 and $18,000 worth of jewelry.  Everything from gold chains to gold and diamond earrings were stolen.

The manager says the man was only in the store for about 30 seconds. It took him nearly that long to break into the store in the first place.  It appears the suspect was wearing pantyhose over his face and was also wearing gloves.

St. Louis County Police describe him as light-skinned, wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt and blue shorts.   The manager says the store has been hit in the past, but it hasn't happened for years until Thursday morning.

The manager also says no customer merchandise was taken, just store items.
