Police Officer Allowed To Lobby For Marijuana After Lawsuit
ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A St. Louis City Police Officer will keep his second job as a lobbyist for pro-marijuana legislation in Jefferson City, MO. Sgt. Gary Wiegert works for part-time for ‘Show-Me Cannibis‘ and full-time for the Metropolitan Police Department. A release from Chief Sam Dotson says the department will allow the his lobbying activity with the right to reconsider.
Wiegert had sued the St. Louis Police Department in federal court because they told him he could not lobby for pot. He said the lawsuit was over the department violating the 1st and 14th amendment rights.
The ‘Show-Me Cannibis’ group is pushing for pro-marijuana laws to group that wants marijuana de-criminalized in Missouri.
