CEDAR HILL, MO (KTVI)-- A girl fighting cancer received a surprise birthday phone call from country music artist Reba McEntire.

McEntire is Pheonix Spangler's favorite musician.

Fox 2 cameras were rolling when the phone rang.

McEntire sang happy birthday to the 13-year-old girl and spoke with her for about ten minutes.

"I love all your songs, and I have your 50 greatest hits," Spangler told McEntire. "Well, thank you darling," McEntire told Spangler.

The conversation ended by McEntire telling Spangler "I love you."

The surprise was arranged by Shawn Kohrs. He is the same man who helped lead the charge in St. Louis for the Thumbs Up For Lane Campaign.

Lane Goodwin died after a long battle with cancer, but first he sparked a fire on social media that promoted childhood cancer awareness.

"I never knew how many kids had cancer," Kohrs said. "This is so rewarding to help."

Kohrs said the key to getting McEntire to call Pheonix was social media.

"I posted a picture with a plea attached explaining that Pheonix wanted to talk with her and people shared it everywhere," Kohrs said.

Eventually, McEntire saw the picture and contacted Shawn.

Kohrs credits the people with "Team Lane" for helping Pheonix's dream come true.

"Team Lane is awesome," he said. "They just don't stop."

"This is so awesome," Pheonix said. "I didn't think it was her and didn't know what to say."

It was Pheonix’s "golden birthday" and she also got her makeup done and went to dinner with her family.

"This is a great birthday," she said.
