ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-- A north city woman is speaking out after a man hit her and her 6-year-old son and fled the scene. Now she wants justice.
Janelle Phillps says she faced a parent’s worst nightmare seeing her son bleeding and lying in the street and there was nothing she could do.
Just after 10pm on Monday 23-year-old Jeanelle Phillips and her 6-year-old son Javon were walking along the intersection of Grand and Natural Bridge when they were hit by a car. The driver kept going.
What’s worse is that Phillips is 8 months pregnant. She says her son has a brain injury and is in a coma at Cardinal Glennon.
"My pelvis is broken, my tailbone is fractured, my kneecap is out of place, I have 6 stitches in my face. I am devastated by this situation. I can`t even see my baby," said Phillips
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office issued warrants for 34-year-old Menkara Rahman for leaving the scene of an accident. He was last seen driving in a red Chevy Monte Carlo with rims. Janielle says the worst part is not being able to see her son. She also wants a thorough investigation. Javon is set to be transferred to Ranken Jordan Hospital in Maryland Heights for rehabilitation.
"I saw my son lying on the ground with blood coming out of his mouth. I blacked out when I saw him. I couldn`t move, my body was shut down," she said.
Relative Kewanda Mason says the family is devastated.
"My nephew can`t eat he can`t talk, move or do nothing he needs to pay for this."
Now all this mother-to-be is hoping is the safe delivery of one son and full recovery of another.
Phillips has to remain in the hospital and is set to deliver her son Jeremiah on July 8th.
The family is also planning to raise money to help with Javon`s medical expenses.
