396 Arrests! How One Chicago Woman Worked The System

(KTVI) – Can a single person get arrested 396 times? Shermain Miles, 51, has done it in the past 35 years.

According to the Chicago-Sun Times, Chicago police have arrested Miles 396 times under 83 different aliases.  She has been arrested 92 times for theft,  65 for disorderly conduct, 59 for prostitution-related crimes and five for robbery or attempted robbery. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office counts 73 total convictions. In most cases, Miles is arrested, released and never convicted.

The Christian Science Monitor reports Miles accepted a deal Monday after pleading guilty to trespassing, public drinking and attacking a city alderman in three separate cases. She agreed to a mental-health evaluation and receiving follow-up treatment. Miles is currently incarcerated at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, Ill.
