St. Louis Ranks 19th out of 100 U.S. Police Departments Using Social Media

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) –  If you follow the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department on Twitter or Facebook, you know the department is taking a different approach to crime prevention, community information, and keeping the public apprised to need-to-know information.

Now the department’s social media efforts are getting national recognition.  The department ranked 19th out of 100 large U.S. cities for it’s social media strides

The study, published on MPHP ProgramsList.com evaluated the social media presence of police departments in the 100 largest U.S. cities.

The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department currently has 3600 Facebook friends, nearly 1800 Twitter followers, and posts videos regularly to its YouTube Channel.

SLMPD scored higher in rankings than cities with major metropolitan areas like Chicago (#21), Houston, Tx(#33), Atlanata (#33), and Washington, DC (#31)

Dallas topped the list with nearly 16,000 Twitter followers and Facebook fans.  The Boston, MA police Department followed behind in the #2 spot.
