(KPLR) - So, we're constantly guiding and teaching our children life lessons, but a new survey shows when it comes to teaching them about money we are failing.

Financial professional Doug Kiffmeyer from Kiffmeyer MRPG stopped by to discuss this topic with Christine Buck.

Some say the survey shows if parents are role models in this area, they need to step it up.

Fifty percent of parents are not regularly saving for retirement, 42 percent don't have an emergency fund, and more than half don't have life insurance.

Educate your kids about finances:

  • Talk to your kids about saving
  • Use everyday experiences
  • Take your kids with you to the ATM or Bank
  • Allow your kids to be part of bill paying
